Early Morning Departure from Cusco City

We will begin our day early, departing from Cusco City. A scenic drive will take us through picturesque valleys, traditional villages, and snow-capped mountains. The journey will last approximately 3.5 hours, bringing us to the base of the Ausangate region. Along the way, we will pass charming Andean communities and enjoy views of local flora and fauna.

Arrival and Breakfast in Pacchanta

The Trek to the 7 Lakes of Ausangate

Our hike begins with a gentle ascent, offering panoramic views of the Ausangate mountain. Each lake has its unique beauty and story:

  • Azulcocha: A deep blue lake contrasting with the snowy peaks. Its depth makes it one of the most striking.

  • Pucacocha: A vibrant “red lake” whose color varies with the seasons, making it a photographer’s dream.
  • Alqacocha: A turquoise jewel surrounded by majestic snowy mountains.
  • Q’omercocha: Known as the “moon lake”, its circular form is perfectly mirrored on calm days.
  • Orqo Otorongo: A high-altitude lake with grayish tones, offering a sense of serene isolation.
  • China Otorongo: The smallest of the lakes, shifting between green and blue hues.

As we hike, we will take breaks to admire each lake and learn about its significance from our guide. This journey also offers us the chance to witness Andean wildlife, including llamas and alpacas grazing nearby. The trail challenges us with its high altitude, but the reward is an unparalleled connection to nature’s splendor.

Lunch with Stunning Views

My experience with the Rainbow Mountain Peru Tour was absolutely unforgettable! From the moment we left Cusco, the journey was filled with excitement and breathtaking views. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared fascinating details about the history and culture of the area. As we hiked toward the mountain, the landscape transformed into something out of a dream. The colors of the mountain were even more vibrant in person than I could have ever imagined. Staying overnight in a nearby town gave us the chance to experience local culture and rest before continuing our journey. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an adventure that blends nature, culture, and relaxation!

The Rainbow Mountain tour from Cusco was one of the best decisions I made during my trip to Peru! The hike was challenging, but the stunning scenery made every step worth it. The vibrant colors of the mountain are truly a sight to behold. What made the experience even more special was staying close to the mountain afterward. The local accommodations were simple but comfortable, and the opportunity to relax and soak in the atmosphere made the tour even more enriching. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. It’s a must-do if you’re visiting Peru!
